TOTAL S.A. France (TOTAL) is one of the world’s largest integrated oil and Gas Company. TOTAL is involved in most aspects of the oil industry: upstream and downstream operations as well as chemical production.
- Upstream operations (13.5% of the group’s activities): These include oil and gas exploitation and production. In 2006, the company produced an average of 2.36 million barrels a day.
- Downstream operations (74.1%): Oil and gas refining, shipping and distribution. By the end of 2006, the company was operating 27 refineries and over 16,530 gas stations worldwide.
- Chemicals (12.4%): The company also produces base chemicals, mostly fertilizers and but also petrochemicals and specialty chemicals for the consumer and the industrial markets.
TOTAL S.A. also engages in power generation through gas power stations and renewable energies.
