The spreading of a country's economic crisis from one market to another. The term was coined in 1997 following the Asian Financial Crisis. Due to political instability, Indonesia's currency suffered from high volatility. The crisis soon spread to other countries in the region. The term is also used as a reference to crises that affect the South American markets.
