The euro is the currency of the European Union’s Eurozone which currently consists of 15 countries (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Austria, Belgium, Malta, Slovenia, Portugal, Cyprus, Finland and Malta). Other small European states such as Monaco and Vatican City use it as their currency even though they are not EU members. Its banking and ISO code is EUR and its sign is €. With more than 320 million Europeans using it as their domestic currency, the euro is currently the currency with the highest combined value of circulating cash, in front of the US dollar. In terms of forex markets turnover, it is the second most traded currency after the USD.
